The Housing census as part of the Register-based census and the Register-based labour market statistics records the entire building and dwelling stock in Austria. The complete survey is conducted by using information from administrative registers as per 31 October (from 2021 on every year). The Buildings and dwelling register is the basic register for the Housing census.
Conventional dwellings are structurally separate units which are suitable for residential purposes and have direct access from the street or from a public staircase in permanent buildings.
The data recorded on the stock of dwellings includes use as main residence or other residence, useful floor space, number of rooms, features of the dwelling and ownership/tenure status.
